Monitoring and Independent Audits

Evergreen provides independent monitoring and oversight services to assess educational institutions’ compliance with the terms of settlement agreements and corrective action requirements.

Evergreen currently serves as the Independent Monitor for Buffalo Public Schools, overseeing the District’s compliance with a settlement agreement with the New York State Attorney General concerning student discipline policies and practices. We also provide independent monitoring services to another educational institution addressing shared ancestry harassment and discrimination.

Evergreen also conducts independent audits to assess educational institutions’ compliance with federal civil rights laws. Our auditing work includes evaluating institutional practices, reviewing compliance measures, and providing recommendations to support meaningful and sustainable improvements.

Recently Evergreen conducted an independent audit at a college within a large public university to assess the college’s compliance with Title VI and Title IX.  The audit included a review of civil rights complaint filed by faculty, students, and staff; interviews with administrators to learn about the college’s compliance efforts, and interviews and forums with faculty, students, and staff to identify areas of success and opportunities for improvement. The results of our audit and our recommendations were provided to the university to serve as a guide as it works to make improvements in campus climate and culture issues, as well as overall compliance with civil rights requirements.
